Kenya Herpetofauna Working Group

The term herpetofauna refers to reptiles (snakes, lizards, tortoises, turtles and crocodiles) and amphibians (caecilians, toads and frogs). Kenya Herpetofauna Working Group members are volunteers who have special interest in reptiles and amphibians. The group promotes public awareness on the conservation and importance of reptiles and amphibians in the environment. Membership is free and open to individuals as well as groups e.g. schools, colleges

Aims

1. To enhance public education and awareness on reptiles and amphibians
2. Initiate and maintain a monitoring programme for amphibians and reptiles at with the support of Site Support Groups in Kenya.


The Friends of Kinangop Plateau receive training on basic amphibian monitoring

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • The group has carried out training in basic monitoring for members of two Site Support Groups in Kinangop plateau and Bobong Camp in Rumuruti.
  • Field excursions have been organized to Lake Magadi, Orlegasailie, Kingwal Swamp and Marula swamp in Rumuruti.
