protecting sites and species
Important
Bird Areas (IBAs)
Important Bird Areas (IBAs) IBAs are key sites for conservation
and have been an effective way of identifying conservation priorities
in Kenya.
At
a number of these sites, Nature Kenya is working with community
based groups of concerned individuals, the Site Support Groups,
which are taking the lead in protecting the sites and monitoring
biodiversity. Click here for more on

promoting an understanding of nature
Nature Kenya has been documenting and disemminating
information on the biodiversity of this region since 1910. The Journal
of East Africa Natural History remains the leading scientific
biodiversity journal in eastern Africa. Scopus
(an ornithological journal) and Kenya Birds are
for all those interested in birds and their conservation. Nature
East Africa magazine and the Nature net monthly newsletter
are the main member publications. Click
here for more on Nature Kenya journals and books.
Special interest groups in plants, mammals, birds, herpetofauna,
succulents, insects and fish, made up of Nature Kenya members and
others are also doing educative work by giving talks, leading field
outings and contributing articles for publication. Click
