Nature Kenya recognizes communities as champions for conservation of nature. We engage them through Site Support Groups (SSGs) approach in and around priority conservation supporting them to:
• Build their capacity to develop nature-based enterprises
• Monitor species and habitats
• Create awareness on biodiversity conservation
• Rehabilitate degraded habitats
• Enhance their organizational/institutional capacities
• Mitigate threats to biodiversity

Income Generating Activities
Some of the Income Generating Activities (IGAs) Nature Kenya has started together with SSGs are:
• Bee keeping and honey production
• Farm forestry and tree nurseries
• Growing mushrooms and other high value products
• Eco-tourism and guiding birdwatchers
• Wool spinning and weaving
• Developing energy saving technologies e.g fireless cookers
