Activities
and impacts
• Ecotourism – The first paying visitors went Mida Creek
in 2003 after a mangrove board walk was established by A Rocha Kenya.
Income from the board walk goes to a secondary school bursary scheme
benefiting local children. The Mida Creek Conservation and Awareness
group organizes picnics and provides guiding and canoe riding services
to visitors. In 2006 alone, more than 3000 tourists visited Mida
Creek, generating Ksh. 120,000 from canoeing, Ksh. 100,000 from
guiding and Ksh. 380,000 from the board walk.

• species & habitat monitoring, and participate in annual
waterfowl counts focusing on coastal areas
